MELBOURNE’S Ringwood has attracted another high profile hotel operator, with Marriott International set to open its second AC Hotel by Marriott Melbourne in the eastern suburb.

Marriott entered has entered into an agreement for a 200-room new build hotel that will be developed by Melbourne-based Sunstone Projects and open in 2024. It is the second signed AC Hotels by Marriott hotel in Australia after the Marriott Melbourne, Southbank in 2018.

Construction recently started at Accor’s 103-room, seven storey Sebel Melbourne Ringwood, due to open in 2021, and which along with the Peppers Melbourne Richmond was part of an $81 million deal with builder Amber Property Group.

AC Hotel by Marriott Melbourne, Ringwood will include five suites, three meeting venues spanning a total of 354 sqm, indoor pool and gym, a casual all-day-dining restaurant offering a menu with European and Spanish influences, and an adjoining bar offering food and drinks. A grab-and-go store will operate at all hours.

“AC Hotel by Marriott Melbourne, Ringwood exemplifies a new wave of expansion for Marriott International in Australia, outside of the well-established CBD centres and into emerging metropolitan destinations, such as Ringwood,” area vice president, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, Marriott International, Sean Hunt said.

“In Australia, we’ve seen a rise in domestic travel and travel to destinations outside the main cities, which is driving demand for quality accommodation in more regional or suburban areas. Victoria is no exception, and we’re excited to introduce this tailored hotel experience to Ringwood.”

The new hotel will form part of the residential and commercial precinct East End, which will also include multiple dining venues, shopping and entertainment, as well as apartments and co-working spaces.
