MELBOURNE-based developer ICD Property has invited five architects to take part in a design competition for a new hotel and apartment tower on Federal Street in the Auckland CBD.
Australian firms Elenberg Fraser, Woods Bagot and Cox Architects will take on iconic London firm Zaha Hadid and New Zealand group Warren and Mahoney.
The site currently comprises a seven-storey car park, and marks ICD’s first overseas development.
The five architects have been asked to design two versions of the building each. The first will be a design that prioritises working within Auckland Council’s current city planning framework, and the second places greater emphasis on “excellent design in order to achieve the Unitary Plan objectives”.
The winning design will be announced in September.
