ARCHITECTUS has made two new senior leadership appointments in Mary Papaioannou and Mark Bredmeyer.
Papaioannou will join the architecture and design studio’s Melbourne Studio in the role of senior associate to lead strategic urban design projects.
Papaioannou has spent the last 18-months collaborating with Architectus on the Melbourne Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) project, leading the development of the urban design strategy for SRL East.
“Mary will continue to lead major urban design projects, such as the Suburban Rail Loop, and help grow our Urban Design and Planning team to service a diverse range of cross-sector projects,” said Dean Thornton, principal and national sector leader, urban design and planning, at Artchitectus.
Papaioannou will bring more than 25 years of experience in urban design and landscape architecture to the position, having worked as a principal at Hassell’s Melbourne studio, as an independent contractor and consultant for MGS Architects.
Meanwhile, Mark Bredmeyer will join Architectus’ Perth transport and infrastructure design team, bringing with him over 22 years of experience in the field.
“Great transport infrastructure projects underpin the economic, social and environmental sustainability of our cities, and Mark’s appointment will support the delivery of top-quality design outcomes,” said Mark Mitcheson-Low, principal, Perth Studio leader and national sector leader, defence, at Architectus.
Bredmeyer has spent the last eight years at GHD Woodhead, designing and delivering new transport stations and infrastructure, with project experience including Airport Central Station for the Forrestfield-Airport Link project and the underground Perth Busport.
“I’m excited to join Architectus’ Perth Studio and deliver major transportation projects across Western Australia that will shape the state’s infrastructure transformation now and into the future,” said Bredmeyer.
Bredmeyer’s previous experience also includes working as a lead architect at Tetra Tech, where he designed various non-process infrastructure projects for the state’s mining sector.
After appointing former University of Melbourne executive Alexandra Lawlor to a newly created position of national leader urban futures & resilience in January, Architectus has made a number of appointments including Richard Burley to the new role of national strategic leader of public private partnerships and major projects and Stirling Fletcher and Sara-Jane Bacon to its interior architecture team.
