MEMBERS of the Australian Property Institute have voted overwhelmingly in favour of change, at the annual general meeting.
The AGM also saw the election of Tyrone Hodge as the new API National President, along with Robert Smyth and Charles Spanjer as Vice Presidents.
Hodge said the members have spoken and they called for change.
“The members have told us what to do and now the hard work begins.
“We have been given a mandate to change the Institute,” he added.
“We now have to focus our efforts on the upcoming EGM in October where we will meet again and present the options to our members.
“Throughout this process, we will continue to engage with the members to ensure this is a collaborative process. Because our actions will be judged by our members,` Hodge said.
API CEO Mike Zissler said those members in attendance combined with the online vote saw in excess of 95% of members voting in favour of the motion.
“It was an absolute majority and this motion now allows us to proceed, although not with haste. We have to ensure we get it right.
“It will be an efficient, honest, reliable and transparent process,” he added.
Zissler said it was also reassuring to see the API life fellows in attendance voting in favour of the motion.
“All the life fellows in attendance voted in favour, including one who seconded the motion, which shows that this process is not about the younger generation trying to take over the institute,” he continued.
Zissler said the newly appointed national council would get straight to work and meet to amend the bylaws.
